Long Time No Blog......

.......And look what happens....

The safety-commenting-anti-spamming-protector-control-thingy broke down and I have to spend ages deleting lots of pointless spam before I can even think about blogging... which in a sense is a good thing as I still needed to think of something to say......hmmmmmm.... I still do...

My domain name is up for renewal which is what prompted my first post in months.... Will I go on? Can I be bothered? Does it matter if no one is reading or that by now, i've been forgotten?

"Probably Not" is the answer but let's give it a go as I am here now, after all.

A friend of Charles Bukoski once said "Write about what you know" and I like to think I know at least a bit about music and even if people think I don't, it's not going to stop it being one of my top topics of choice.. I like nothing more than recommending music to people or talking about it in general... I'm also dabbling in the black arts of writing music again so who knows, some of it may appear here soon...

In the meantime, I plan to post clips of bits and pieces that is either new or nostalgic (A nice broad range then) that i can recommend or that I do not think gets the praise (or perhaps criticism) it so richly deserves...

First off, I've been looking up  one-hit wonders and I was wondering, which one hit wonder is my favourite of them all and for once I could make up my mind quite quickly....

This is Sue Wilkinson with 'You've got to be a Hustler' which came out in 1980.. This is about as much information as I could actually find out about this song and the enigma of Sue Wilkinson.. I do remember seeing it on an episode of TOTP2 about 10 years ago but the clip seems to have escaped the clutches of YouTube but I did find this fun and slightly lewd video tribute with the original track....

Right.... Now to fix this commenting system......

The Acorn

Like lots of 'Hip' Londoners this week, I went to see Fleet Foxes who, I admit were much better than what I thought they were going to be.. The vocals really were outstandingly clear and their lack-lustre banter between songs added to the charm of the whole evening.. There was even a shout of 'STEPHEN!!!!' after the first song which i'm sure would make Adam and Joe chuckle, especially when the Lead singer stated that he hoped Stephen was ok and enjoying himself with a rather bemused expression on his face...

My favourite Album last year was not the Fleet Foxes album (Sorry, but the enjoyment diminishes slightly everytime I listen to the album)  but it was the Acorn's 'Glory Hope Mountain' and before they joined Elbow (sorry, not much of a fan) on tour, they opened for Fleet Foxes on Monday night and they really were fantastic although with most support bands, they were significantly quieter than the headline act...

Jaded from flying in from Ottawa that day didn't seem to put them off their stride and I sincerely hope to see them again soon..

This song is from their latest album, it's called "Crooked Legs" and everyone should buy a copy now.. Once they are as big as Fleet Foxes, I will obviously change my mind and move onto an even more obscure band. A new Dirty Projectors album should sort that out...
